CRA set to mail Processing Review Letters June 10th
Our Canadian Tax System is set up as a self-assessment system. As such CRA does not receive a majority of the documentation to support the amounts on your tax return. One of the ways CRA ensures returns are filed correctly is by asking for some of this supporting documentation. Your tax return may be chosen for review because of specific credits or deductions, random selection, your compliance history, or T-slip information received by CRA does not match what’s on your tax return.
Per CRA website: If the income tax and benefit return of one or more of your clients is selected for review, it does not reflect on you as the tax preparer. This means that CRA’s selection of your return is not necessarily because of anything we did, or you did, but rather based on the CRA’s selection process.
If you receive one of these letters, you can respond to the letter yourself. The information being requested by CRA is typically clearly described in the letter. If you are more comfortable having our office respond on your behalf, do not hesitate to contact one of our five offices and we will be happy to assist you.
